Connection of 0-10V (1-10V)

0-10V light control systems are often used to adjust the brightness of LED strips and luminaires. The 0-10V standard is one of the earliest and simplest lighting control protocols. Later, the use of this interface expanded to control the speed of rotation of fans in ventilation systems or fan coils, smooth control of thermal heads. There are even gas boilers in which the modulation of the burner flame is set by a 0-10V signal.
Changing the brightness or speed is done by changing the voltage in the range - from 0 to 10V, where the parameter 0V means that the light is off, or the brightness is minimal, and 10V - 100% brightness. Equipment manufacturers sometimes recommend using a separate switch or relay to turn off the controlled device completely. In essence, this interface is a one-way connection from the controller to the lighting device.
In the line of Atom series controllers, the output with the 0-10V interface is realized by means of the changeable module 10D as a part of the Atom Hydrogen controller.

Advantages of using the 0-10V interface - ease of use and connection. No additional settings or programming required. The connection is made by a simple two-wire cable (preferably shielded), in the output settings of the controller it is enough to specify the type of connected device.
From these advantages follow certain disadvantages that should be taken into account when choosing equipment. The interface is analogue, so in order to improve interferences immunity, it is desirable to use a shielded cable of the minimum possible length and connect it at a sufficient distance from power cables or other sources of electromagnetic interferences. In addition, there is no feedback, so we can not always be sure, in what condition the controlled device is.
